The University awarded a contract for neuro spinal cord stimulation system.
Biotronik LLC provides the Prospera spinal cord stimulation (SRS) system with HomeStream Remote Management, a rechargeable, 16 electrode, MRI conditional SCS system that delivers electrical stimulation to the spinal cord for the management of chronic intractable pain of the trunk/limbs. Prospera comes with daily remote monitoring of the patient device which allows the team and provider to proactively ensure patients device is operating correctly without relying on the patient.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) It is crucial for UI Health to have access to this neuro stimulator to ensure that patient candidates receive the best possible care. Without access, patients will have to go elsewhere for treatment which would result in a loss of revenue for the hospital.
