The University awarded a contract for a high-resolution image capture system.
MacroPATH is a comprehensive tool designed to create digital documentation of the grossing process of surgical specimens and biopsies, providing pathologists with clear and unequivocal digital information for accurate diagnoses.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Grossing of biospecimens is a key step in the pre-analytical phase of patient diagnosis. MacroPath streamlines workflow in the Gross room, eliminates time-consuming steps such as notes, dictation and manual drawing of the surgical specimen. MacroPath Digital Imaging System enhances patient safety as it incorporates all necessary features to expedite and simplify the documentation and traceability of biospecimens. MacroPath enables the lab to standardize the acquisition and storage of specimen documentation into specific case ID folders. These digital images can be used to improve the diagnostic report. MacroPath can also be used as a teaching tool by creating videos and images that can be used to educational purposes.
