The University awarded a contract for oncaspar.
Cardinal Health Specialty Pharmaceutical Distribution provides specialty pharmaceutical products to hospitals. One of the products is Oncaspar, a cancer drug to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), that only Cardinal can distribute which are needed for UI Health's patient population.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Cardinal Health is the specialty pharmaceutical distributor that Kite Pharma, the company that makes Oncaspar, for the medical drug. It is crucial for the Hospital to have access to this drug to treat patients.
