The University awarded a contract for 16 Cage Promethion Core Systems.
This purchase is for 16 Cage Promethion Core System with Isotope Analyzer. Promethion Core is the only metabolic and behavioral phenotyping system that enables the tight synchronization of metabolic data with behavioral events.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This procurement is in the best interests of the University because the existing Promethion Metabolic System in the metabolic suite is constantly running at full capacity, with users needing to reserve it 4-6 months ahead of their experiments. There's also high demand from outside users who currently have to be turned away due to the system's full schedule. Purchasing additional sets of the Promethion Metabolic Systems will allow the University to better support the ongoing research inside the Endocrinology and Physiology departments, as well as accommodate requests from outside users.
