The University awarded a contract for Endovascular aneurysm repair stents and mesh.
These implantable supplies are synthetic implants used to patch up injured or diseased parts of the patients arteries which are large parts of the patients vascular system.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The medical supplies provided by WL Gore have to do with direct patient care. Without this type of patient supplies, the hospital will not be able to provide this type of patient care. As a result, the patient will go elsewhere and the hospital will take a loss in revenue.
