The University awarded a contract for an ultrasound machine.
The bk5000 is an ultrasound machine that provide advance intraoperative surgical procedures by helping navigate and identify lesions and anatomical structures in real-time. This is particularly important as the data obtained from a preoperative CT or MRI scan can be outdated at the time of surgery.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) UI Health currently have bk3000 and bk5000. The surgeons prefer the same equipment for ease of use and compatibility of equipment. The same probes are being used everywhere so this is a simple and easy transition for the clinicians.
