Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

MedSpeed to provide medical courier services to UI Health for the transportation of patient specimens, medical supplies, and equipment. MedSpeed provides services to UI Health sites throughout Illinois.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) MedSpeed is the only vendor capable of servicing all sites throughout the state. Patient specimens are picked up daily from patient care sites (clinics, health departments, etc) and transported to the UI Health Laboratories for testing the same day. Service interruption would result in an adverse impact on patient care.
