Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Requesting biochemical genetics services for newborns at the University of Illinois at Chicago & University of Illinois at Peoria, and other hospitals in the State of Illinois served by the UIC biochemical genetics service. The UIC biochemical genetics laboratory is a referral source for specimens obtained from patients with inborn errors of metabolism followed by our biochemical genetics program. Critical management decisions are made based on the results obtained on amino and organic acid analysis. These results need to be reviewed and signed off by a board certified biochemical geneticist.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) We are a State designated 'Newborn Screening Site' and it is very critical to provide medical management to newborns in a timely manner. We currently have many patients who are undergoing medical care for metabolic genetics and this procurement is very important to ensure the continuity of care for these patients.
