The University awarded a contract for conference event space.
UIC is securing conference event space. UIC won the hosting duties over Duke University, and others including Tokyo, Japan to host this meeting. This event is an international event that will bring physicians from all over the world.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for events or activities paid for exclusively by revenues generated by the event or activity, gifts, or donations for the event or activity, private grants, or any combination thereof. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(2)) First, UIC was the winning bidder over Duke University, and others including Tokyo, Japan to host this meeting. This event is an international event that will bring physicians from all over the world. By sponsoring this event (co-sponsored and supported by the Transplantation Society and the Intestinal rehabilitation and Transplant Association), international visibility will be provided to UIC. Not only that, but because of the uniqueness of the diseases and surgery, we plan to capitalize upon that locally by holding an educational workshop for providers at local academic and private health care facilities as well as providing newsworthy reports for television and print media consumption, and potentially tours of our world-class robotic surgery training center. This will lead to improved standing of UIC among our academic peers. This will lead to increased patient referrals and potentially increased financial donor support.
