The University awarded a contract for an In Vivo Imaging System.
In Vivo Imaging System including software used for preclinical optical imaging of small animals, in vivo using bioluminescence and fluorescence.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) An in vivo imager is critical to be competitive in acquiring National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF) and Department of Defense (DoD) grants. Researchers working in the fields of Immunology, Vaccine Development, Cancer Research, Regenerative Medicine and Disability Research, Nanomedicine and 3D printing, might be adversely affected. Also, ability to get extramural grants and publication will be affected.
