The University awarded a contract for sterilizers and glasswashers.
This exemption is for the purpose of purchasing sterilizers and glasswashers used in student and faculty research laboratories to ensure proper sterilization, contamination control, equipment reliability, and compliance with laboratory safety standards.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Steris Corporation is the equipment manufacturer for the laboratory autoclave units and serves as the contractor for all preventive maintenance services. Without properly functioning autoclave units, research laboratories would lack the sterilized tools to perform vital research.
