The University awarded a contract for American Heart Association.
The purchase is for the online portion of American Health Association (AHA), programs run by the University through the Medical Education Department's Simulation and Integrative Learning, (SAIL). The programs are Basic Life Support, (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support, (PALS), Advances Cardiac Life Support., (ACLS). These classes are offered to the University proper for their certifications which is needed for their employment/scholastic standing. This includes physicians, residents, medical students, dentistry personnel, applied health science personnel etc.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without this exemption the university will be unable to continue offering its American Heart Association (AHA) training programs, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
