The University awarded a contract for Implants for Patients.
The Johnson & Johnson CERENOVUS supplies including TruFill Coils and Syringes (Detachable Coil System), and various are implants used in the treatment of aneurysms and the endovascular treatment of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. An aneurysm occurs when part of an artery wall weakens, allowing it to balloon out or widen abnormally. An ischemic stroke occurs when blood supply is cut off to part of the brain. This type of stroke accounts for the majority of all strokes. The blocked blood flow in an ischemic stroke may be caused by a blood clot or by atherosclerosis, a disease which causes narrowing of the arteries over time. Coil embolization is a minimally invasive procedure to treat an aneurysm by filling it with material that closes off the sac and reduces the risk of bleeding. It is performed from within the artery (endovascular) through a steerable catheter inserted into the blood stream at the groin and guided to the brain.
