Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

Some of the older Omnicell cabinets are running a version of Windows that will no longer be supported by Microsoft after October 2025. This project is to replace the computers within the cabinets. The new computers will continue to be supported by Omnicell. They also include new security chips, a brighter, clearer screen, and a keyboard that is more responsive.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) UIH Strategic Alignment Explanation: Operating systems are constantly changing, which can impact data and network security. XTE includes a new security chip that takes full advantage of new operating system security features. Usually zero harm implies harm to the individual patient, but in this case, hardening the security on our automation reduces the risk of harm through cyber attacks to the organization as a whole.
