The University awarded a contract for Lipiodol (ethiodized oil) Injection.
Lipiodol (ethiodized oil) injection is an oil-based radio-opaque contrast agent indicated for selective hepatic intra-arterial use in adults with hepatocelluar carcinoma. It is combined with chemotherapeutic agents and then injected into the hepatic artery to treat hepatocellular carcinoma.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If we are unable to purchase Lipiodol, UI Health will not be able to provide this life saving treatment and patients will have to be referred to other medical centers, resulting in a loss of revenue.
