The University awarded a contract for a mobile robot system.
InTouch Health provides a mobile robot system, a remote presence device that allows physicians to perform real-time consulting with patients, other physicians, and healthcare providers. This exemption is for three additional robots and ongoing support for existing robots. The InTouch mobile robots system is a class II medical device that is FDA-approved for use in active patient monitoring (e.g., pre, perioperative, and postsurgical, cardiovascular, neurological, prenatal, psychological, and critical care assessments and examinations).
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) InTouch Health mobile robot systems are used in direct patient care. Without access to these mobile robot systems, the Hospital would not be able to offer proper patient care and would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
