The University awarded a contract for GORE Cardioform ASD Occluder and Septal Occluder.
The GORE Cardioform ASD Occluder and Septal Occluder devices are used in cardiology procedures for the closure of Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) and Atrial Septal Defects (ASD). It is designed to seal holes in the septum of the heart, ensuring effective treatment and improved patient outcomes in structural heart repair.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical at a university-operated health care center or dispensary that provides care, treatment, and medications for students, faculty and staff (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This procurement is in the best interests of the University because it provides a cost-effective solution while enabling physicians to deliver optimal care for patients with challenging anatomies. The Cardioform occlusion devices are less expensive and better suited for successful closure, ensuring high-quality medical outcomes. Without these devices, physicians would be unable to offer the best care, potentially causing patients to seek treatment elsewhere. This could result in a loss of revenue for the Hospital and negatively impact the Universitys reputation as a provider of leading-edge medical care.
