The University awarded a contract for Laboratory Animal Diagnostic Services.
Charles River will provide laboratory animal diagnostic services including testing of environmental samples for murine pathogens. Primary material to be tested is contact media that has been exposed to soiled bedding of colony animals. The unit will ship samples to the vendor including Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) panels of murine pathogens for mice and rats.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The Charles River testing program ensures the health and integrity of the animal colonies and biological materials. Over the past three years, the department has fully transitioned to the Pathogen Binder method, which replaces the use of live sentinel animals.
