The University awarded a contract for a Service Maintenance Agreement.
Service maintenance agreement for environmental monitoring system in the UIC animal facilities. The system monitors temperature, humidity, light, and pressure differentials in select bio and chemical hazard rooms in real-time 24/7.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) If this procurement is not approved the State would incur both financial and operational risks. The existing Rees Scientific system is fully integrated across animal housing facilities, and alternative vendors cannot reliably service or interface with the system without significant modification or replacement. This would likely result in substantial costs for new equipment, installation as well as delays in service coverage.
