Project Description

Illinois State University is seeking statements of qualifications from architectural or roofing design firms interested in providing design and construction administrative services for the installation of new roof systems for Haynie and Wright residence hall mechanical penthouses on the main campus. Haynie and Wright halls are 13 stories at the penthouse, qualifying them as high rise facilities.

Planned work includes: Removing the existing roofing system and the existing tectum deck and bulb tees, down to the existing steel joists and beams. Install new 20 ga., galvanized, "B" deck, a new vapor barrier, tapered polyisocyanurate board insulation system, 5/8" dens deck or secure rock, and a .060 EPDM Membrane. The perimeter fascia system needs to be a premanufactured system warrantable by the roofing manufacturer. The total system installation shall be 120 MPH wind warranty with 150 MPH on the fascia system. This project also includes replacement of the existing skylight to current applicable code standards as part of this project with one that is rated for fall protection requirements. Skylight curb will need to be raised 12" above the new roofing system and a fall protection system will need to be installed with tie off anchor points.

The roofs of these buildings will be replaced in phases and completed consecutively. This proposed project is essential to maintaining the exterior envelope of the facility and extending its useful life. Coordination will be required to facilitate work and scheduled with appropriate ISU staff.

Design firms interested in submitting their professional qualifications should have demonstrated knowledge and experience with roofing projects in high rise higher education residential facilities of this nature. The designers or architects and their consultants will be responsible for all structural and envelope requirements and will be responsible for developing a complete project budget as their design progresses.
