The University awarded a contract for a mobile bed and flow visualization tank to Armfield Inc, Denison, Iowa for an estimated $61,917.
The instrument being purchased is a Model S2-2M, with a working length of 2m., and is to include the following accessories:
  • #S2-2M-B electrical supply, 120V/1 phase, 60 Hz
  • Length: 3.70M
  • Width: 0.71m
  • Height: 2.0m
  • Model bridge piers; two rectangular, four cylindrical, two profiled and two with rounded ends
  • One asymetrical aerofoil shape
  • Two model gate guides
  • Eight aluminum baffles to direct the water flow for general test purposes
  • One set of twelve x 50mm x 50mm aluminum Tees and six 40mm equal angles all 125mm long, to build additional models
The tank is molded from self colored Oxford Blue (BS0105) glass fiber reinforced plastic with steel reinforcements to provide ridgidity. The unit is a self contained recirculating water tank for flow visualization and mobile bed studies. All components in contact with water are manufactured from non-corroding materials. The working section has dimensions of 2m x 610mm and the flow range is 0-4 liters/second. Fifteen models and accessories are included as standard and a sheet of colored glass allows rapid changeover from mobile bed to flow visualization mode. All controls are housed in a protable console which includes a flexible cable and water safe connectors.
