The University intends to purchase one Accuscan Model PhysioScan Metabolic system for research purposes in the School of Medicine Physiology department. The requested product has unique design and performance features essential to the ongoing research protocol, which are not found in units from other manufacturers. These include, but are not limited to:
Accurate and frequent sampling of small animal (mouse and rat) metabolic rates
The capability of measuring eight mice or rats at one time with sampling frequencies of fifteen seconds
Air and flow rate to each individual chamber can be specified to allow measurements simultaneously from animals with a wide range of body weights
The unit does not require regular calibration.
Air fan for mixing (proprietary to this manufacturer)
Custom built cages to allow food hopper and water bottle attachment to cage.
The requested equipment is essential in maintaining experimental continuity due to prior research conducted at the Primary Investigators previous institution.
