In addition to counseling/psychotherapy, a significant portion of SIUE students require psychotropic medication as a part of their treatment. Only a licensed psychiatrist can ethically prescribe this type of medication that serves as an adjunct to the student’s on-going psychotherapy/counseling. Psychological and psychiatric treatment of the students of the SIUE community improves retention rates and minimizes impairment to academic, social and, personal functioning. Bidder must be located within a fifty mile radius of the Edwardsville campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
All questions must be e-mailed to Shelly Albert at malbert@siue.edu by noon CDT on April 27, 2012. Questions submitted after this date will not receive a response. Answers to all questions submitted in writing will be addressed in the form of an addendum to posted on the Bulletin website. Companies that contact with any other SIUe representative may be disqualified.
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville expects the Bidder to provide the presence of a psychiatrist to enhance the treatment already being received by students from the counseling and health services staff. The psychiatrist is expected to write appropriate assessment reports and case notes as part the student’s clinical chart previously created. In situations where psychotropic medication is clinically indicated, the psychiatrist will prescribe the appropriate medicine and then monitor and adjust that medication until it is no longer required. If the patient is no longer enrolled, Counseling Services will provide an appropriate referral if necessary.
The services will be provided during the period July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013 with the option to renew under the same terms and conditions during the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014 (Option I) and July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 (Option II).
