The University awarded a contract for hearing aids and supplies for 7/1/01 to 6/30/02 to Phonak, Inc. for an estimated $100,000.
The SIU Audiology Clinic utilizes many different hearing aid manufacturers. A large number of the hearing aids required are available exclusively through Phonak because of several special features. These features include directional microphones, telecoils, multiple memory, remote controls, multiple frequency band adjustments and multiple circuit parameters. Additionally, they are extremely durable and have very wide power range in a small casing, which is necessary in fitting even severely hearing-impaired children in a size their ear can support.
