The University
awarded
a contract for
an Odyssey Infrared Imaging System
to
Li-Cor Incorporated, Lincoln, Nebraska
for
an estimated $50,488.
The Li-cor Odyssey Infrared Imaging System offers infrared-based technology in chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging. This system is the only infrared based-system of its kind, available for basic research use, utilizing infrared detectors to detect infrared fluorescence.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the
compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
Infrared detection offers wider dynamic range which means greater sensitivity when looking at Western blots, stained gels, cell-based assays, fluorescent gel-shift assays, tissue imaging, in vivo imaging, and protein arrays. The versatility of this instrument adds tremendously to its value, scientifically and cost-wise. The greater sensitivity means less cost in reagents, fewer repeats and more confident and reliable data, leading to a faster pace in research discoveries.
