The University awarded a contract for TAVR Evolut Valves .
The TAVR Evolut Valves are used specifically for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The procedure is a treatment option for people with severe (high risk and intermediate risk) aortic stenois that does not require open heart surgery.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without the required Medtronic TAVR supplies, the hospital will not be able to perform these procedures and provide the proper level of care for the patient.
