The University awarded a contract for Upgrade existing Bruker X-ray diffractometer to Bruker AXS Inc., Billerica, MA, for an estimated $99,999.
Purchase from Bruker their Photon 100 detector (replacing APEX detector) and replacement of X-ray tube. Bruker's PHOTON 100 is fully integrated into the Bruker system and is thus compatable with existing equipment; other vendors do not have compatibility.

The PHOTON 100 detector can acquire data with unprecedented speed, at high resolution, high sensitivity and with great reliability. The PHOTON 100 is also compatible with the UIC-built environmental chamber, which requires a large sensor size, in addition to high speed and high resolution and sensitivity. This leads to diffraction data with the highest signal to noise ratio and the best peak to background ratio, which enables superior lower limits of detection of crystalline phases.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
