The University awarded a contract for housekeeping & biohazard waste disposal.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which immediate action was needed to prevent any disruption in University services.
An emergency purchase is necessary for continual housekeeping services for the Molecular Biology Research Building (MBRB) located at 900 So. Ashland Ave,, Chicago, IL 60607 to be provided by Garco Enterprises. In addition to routine housekeeping services, Garco Enterprises staff clean the research labs and replenish the biohazard waste containers on a daily basis (Monday thru Friday). Due to these unique services, the MBRB building can not be serviced by University staff.
The selection of Garco Enterprises is based on the fact that they have performed these services in accordance with the specifications, for the past several years. While the University is waiting for the competitive solicitation RFP is being developed, it is crucial that we retain their services as they are familiar with the facility and it??s biohazard waste needs.
Any cessation of the housekeeping services would be detrimental to the MBRB occupants, would interfere with research projects and would cause and unclean and unsafe environment.
This emergency contract term will bridge the gap until the new solicitation is issued, evaluated and awarded.
The Department of Facilities therefore respectfully requests approval of this emergency purchase.
