The University awarded a contract for surgical supplies.
ConMed surgical supplies are used in biliary & endoscopic ultrasound. The test combines ultrasound and endoscopy to look at your food pipe, stomach, pancreas and bile ducts. To do the test your doctor uses a long flexible tube called an endoscope. It has a tiny camera and light on the end and an ultrasound probe attached. The supplies consist of transbronchial needles, forceps, probes, stents and other ancillary items.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The surgical supplies provided by ConMed have to do with direct patient care service. Without this type of patient supplies the hospital will not be able to provide this type of procedure and a patient will go else where and intern we will take a loss in revenue.
