Description of Project
The project consists of the preparation of a feasibility study for the redevelopment and expansion of the existing College of Nursing Building on the University of Illinois at Chicago Campus. The work will be primarily confined to the basement through sixth floor within the existing building, which includes approximately 100,000 gross square feet and the planning for building expansion as deemed appropriate.
The initial commission will be limited to the portion of the work as defined below. Should the project proceed, the retained architect would be considered for completion of the balance of the project.
The following work is included:
- Develop a traffic study to define efficient student/staff flow patterns.
-
Redesign the building entrance/lobby to improve quality of life and enhance
movement into and through the building.
- Validate College of Nursing preliminary program and develop a master plan
including cost estimates to meet future needs.
-
Prepare a Preliminary Space Analysis/Utilization/Reassessment Plan
-
Prepare a code analysis, which identifies necessary code upgrades based on the
current and proposed uses.
-
Prepare a master program for the redefinition of the facility which includes the
following:
-
Identify deficiencies in the existing HVAC system along with potential revisions
and/or repairs to maintain proper space temperature control and to improve indoor
air quality.
-
Analyze other building systems as appropriate.
-
Incorporate reclaimed space from an existing escalator into the program.
-
Planning to remodel/expand classroom and research laboratory areas.
Also included will be the preparation of presentation materials for a potential
