Project Description
This project will address issues with the domestic hot water system in both residence buildings by redesigning the DHW system architecture to include a step-down heat exchanger where HTHW is first converted to medium temperature hot water in an intermediary loop and then further converted to DHW utilizing the existing DHW heat exchanger. Currently, high temperature hot water is converted to domestic hot water through a single shell-and-tube heat exchanger. Due to the extreme temperature differentials between the HTHW and the DHW, and the incoming HTHW pressure and flows, the existing heat exchangers have failed multiple times over the past few years. The Division 03 Heating contractor will be responsible for coordinating this project and providing supporting plumbing and electrical divisions or work. A new shell-and-tube water-to-water HX will be shall be provided and installed, along with new secondary variable pumps, and a connection made to existing vertical shell-and-tube water-to-water DHW heat exchangers. In additional to heating, plumbing, and electrical work, this project will also require upgrades to the building automation system for the new equipment and system operations.

This Project is located at: Marie Robinson Hall 811 W Maxwell St Chicago, IL 60607 and Thomas Beckham Hall 1250 S Halsted St Chicago, IL 60607.

A MANDATORY pre-bid conference for all parties interested in bidding the project will be held in Granderson Stadium Club, 2nd Floor 900 W Maxwell Street Chicago, IL 60607 at 10:00 AM on 4/12/2023. The pre-bid meeting has been POSTPONED and we will update the meeting time and date with addendum 2. Walkthrough to immediately follow.
