Project Description
The exterior envelope of the University of Illinois Hospital is in need of extensive repairs in order to keep the building water-tight and fully functional. The repairs to be accomplished under the project are based on recommendations from a critical assessment report published in 2012 as well as additional needs identified by the Hospital administration. The Scope of the work includes: repair cracked/spalling precast concrete panels enclosing the hospital. Replace anchor system of four (4) distressed precast panels. Replace roof membranes at four (4) wings with a modified bitumen roof system. Replace all windows at the north west wing on the 5th and 7th floors. In addition to the window replacement, the intent is to repair as many windows as possible within the available project budget. Swing stages will be required to accomplish the majority of the exterior repairs. However at the four (4) stabilizing locations, the associated rooms will have to be closed in order to replace the anchoring system from the interior. The work will affect rooms 525E, 683E, 685E, 783E, 785E, 883E, and 885E. Coordination of restoration work with Hospital operations is critical. The Hospital does not want any rooms unavailable for any longer than necessary, thus careful scheduling is essential. The NICU is on the 4th floor, so special care will have to be taken during the fifth floor work to ensure no noise transfers to the 4th floor.
