Project Description
The Library Remote Storage Facility was designed to provide high density, archival book storage in a remote campus location. The original facility was completed in October, 2004, and it provides storage for 1.75 million volumes, as well as office and administrative space.
This addition, the first of three planned phases of construction, will provide space for an additional 1.9 million volumes. The storage of archival books is the sole programmatic component within this scope of work. Various systems used on the original building will be employed in the design of this addition, including the use of pre-cast concrete exterior wall panels, a super-flat concrete floor, a deluge-type fire protection system, and a dedicated H/V/A/C system designed specifically for the archival storage environment. The H/V/A/C system in this scope will be dedicated to the first addition; the fire protection system will be designed to extend from an existing fire pump.
