Project Description
The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is seeking a professional services consultant team for the design, bid/award, and construction phase services for the Wohlers Hall Life Safety Upgrades and Room 141 Renovation project. Wohlers Hall is located 1206 S. Sixth Street, Champaign, Illinois 61820, and is not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

This project will resolve life safety issues such as dead-end corridors, mixed occupancy protection, and subdivision of common paths of travel and egress elements by providing new automatic fire suppression (sprinkler) system throughout the building. The renovation work will also involve upsizing the existing water main to the facility to supplement the needed capacity for the system, as well as enhancement of the existing fire alarm system by incorporating upgrades where alarm components have become obsolete and replacement parts are no longer available.

Necessary demolition, associated abatement, and new construction work in the spaces identified to accommodate fire suppression system including replacement of the suspended ceiling tile system in areas effected by remedial life safety work and cleaning of light fixtures and mechanical air diffusers to remain in all areas affected by the installation of the suppression system shall be included.

The renovation of the lecture hall will remove and replace the lectern, instructor's workstation, and existing tablet arm fixed seating (approximately 320+) with new fixed, tiered seating with folding tablet arms and sloped floor connections that meet the accessibility codes / guidelines. Electrical power accommodations must be incorporated into project design that seamlessly fits with the character of the room and seat layout. The scope shall also address the removal and replacement of suspended ceiling system and light fixtures, flooring surfaces, mechanical air diffuser cleaning, and reupholstering of the acoustical sound attenuation panels.

Project location: 1206 S. Sixth Street, Champaign, IL 61820 (Building Number 0159): located between Gregory Drive and Lorado Taft Drive; central campus, commerce quad, West Military Axis (Portion of Parcel Number 46-21-18- 326-001)
