The University
awarded
a contract for
recruitment advertising
to
The State Journal Register
for
an estimated $60,000.
The Office of Campus Relations does a large amount of recruitment advertising during the fiscal year. The State Journal Register is the sole source daily newspaper in the Springfield area and has the largest circulation within a seventy mile radius. Also, The State Journal Register is affiliated with the Lincoln Courier, a daily paper published in Lincoln, located 30 miles northeast of Springfield. (They are both owned by Copley News Service.) Some advertisements are placed in the Lincoln paper and are currently billed through The State Journal Register''''s accounting department.
The Office of Campus Relations receives a "non-profit organization" advertising rate. Compared to other newspapers with similar or larger circulations the rates charged by The State Journal Register are reasonable and fit within the department budget.
