The University awarded a contract for Fluidigm System and Consumables to Fluidigm Corporation, San Francisco, CA, for an estimated $240,000.
Fluidigm consumables (chips) for the Fluidigm Quantitative PCR Reader System which requires these consumables for continued operation of this instrument. These consumables are the only ones that can be used for this system due to patents. They are essential for continuance of Fluidigm's Warranty Agreement/future Service Contracts and for continuity of research. The Fluidigm system allows accurate quantitation of gene expression, SNP detection and DNA copy number detection all of which play a major role in biomedical, plant breeding, and microbacterial research. This will be a standing order to cover Fluidigm consumables (chips) for research runs for FY15.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
