The University awarded a contract for a microscope.
LCM Combi-System Microscope. This microscope allows for laser dissection of individual cells from tissue, can move cells from one location to another in cell culture and can manipulate the cell membrane (add or remove receptors, ion channels, etc.), and has excellent imaging (live cell or fixed tissue).
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. It is state of the art equipment that will greatly enhance their abilities to do highly skilled technical work and answer more complicated questions, therefore making their future grant applications more competitive.
