The University awarded a contract for intraoperative monitoring services.
Provision of supplementary Intra-Operative Monitoring (IOM) services which will provide the standard care for the hospital surgery patients. IOM is used to monitor an anesthetized patient's brain & spinal cord function during a surgery procedure.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Intra-Oper:ative Monitoring is a direct patient care service. The monitoring of an anesthetized patient's brain and spinal cord functions during surgical procedures are critical services that prevent complications from said procedures. The University will not be able to perform these procedures and a patient will go elsewhere and in turn, the University will take a loss in revenue.
