The University awarded a contract for stents, fibers, catheters, and guide wires.
The Cook Medical supplies (Stents, fibers, catheters and guide wires). Ureteral stent sets are used for temporary internal drainage from the ureteropelvic junction to the bladder of a patient. The ureteropelvic junction is located where the pelvis of the kidney meets the ureter (the tube that drains urine into the bladder). The obstruction impedes the flow of urine down to the bladder, causing the urine to back up in the kidney and dilate it (hydronephrosis). The stent features a braided tether and graduation marks. The set includes a stent with pigtail straightener, a stent positioner with radiopaque tip, and a wire guide.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Cook Medical supplies have to do with direct patient treatment and care. Without access to these specific supplies the hospital would not be able to offer patient care that in turn would drive patients else where and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
