Detergents for cage wash
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The Biologic Resources Laboratory (BRL) at the University of Illinois at Chicago is the unit that services the laboratory animal science needs of the campus. Over 13,000 mouse, guinea pig, and rat cages, 250 primates, and 45 dogs and pigs are housed in the BRL animal facilities on any given day, and up to 30,000 rodents may be housed at any one time. Approximately 2,800 mouse and rat cages are changed and cleaned each day. In addition, another 40 primate cages and varying numbers of dogs, pigs and other animal pens are cleaned daily. The animal facility?s cage wash function is a 365 day-a-year operation requiring rotation of sanitized animal caging equipment to support animal husbandry operations of the as required by law and compliance regulations.
