The University awarded a contract for iBed Wireless.
Stryker offers an add on to their beds called iBed Wireless that can connect our hospital bed wirelessly to the patient's electronic health records (EPIC). The patient's weights and bed configurations, like head of bed (HOB) angle, bed height, side rails, brake, bed exit alarm, and protocol reminders, can be documented into an Electronic Health Record in EPIC from the bedside.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Stryker Sales Corporation has to do with direct patient treatment and care. Without access to these iBed Wireless devices, the hospital would not be able to offer the patients the best possible care that would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
