This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Scientifica is the only vendor that provides the whole TEVC electrophysiological rig. The TEVC rig is a basic experimental instrument for oocytes huge ionic currents recording in the ion channel function research. The TEVC rig requested is only available from this vendor. This being paid from funds under grant EA588: Regulation of Voltage-gated Proton Channel.
