The University awarded a contract for transplant compatibility test supplies.
Reagents and Supplies needed to perform compatibility tests on UI Health patients who require solid organ or bone marrow/stem cell transplants.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) One Lambda is the industry leader in this field all labs in the U.S. use their reagents. They provide the best tools available to ensure a successful transplant outcome for the patient, i.e. their reagents have a comprehensive HLA antigen profile allowing for more accurate antibody assignments. They have also recently updated their reagents to identify additional HLA antibodies, while the only other vendor that can provide reagents has not.
