The University awarded a contract for respiratory panel testing kits.
The Respiratory panel test for a wide variety of respiratory illnesses including Influenza A and B and Coronaviruses. BioFire has also added COVID-19 to their panel. Regular respiratory testing needs to be performed in order to help screen patients that may have the flu or COVID-19. We are curently using these instruments and they can have expanded capacity by adding on additional modules that build on the existing instrument and not increase the footprint. The demand for respiratory testing is increasing significantly.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The results from this testing gives care providers vital information needed for the care of their patients.
