The University awarded a contract for the Chicago Census Research Data Center Consortium.
The Chicago Census Research Data Center Consortium is a collaboration between the United States Census Bureau and a consortium of the University of Illinois system, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The 3 universities and the Federal Reserve Bank have operated the center since 2022 under a series of contracts signed by all parties. The Chicago Research Data Center is a data center in the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago that allows approved academic researchers to access and provide statistical analysis of non-public microdata made available by the Census Bureau.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for membership in professional, academic, research, or athletic organizations on behalf of a public institution of higher education, an employee of a public institution of higher education, or a student at a public institution of higher education. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(1)) This is a research organization.
