The University awarded a contract for a femtosecond laser system.
The Axon Lasers are compact, cost-effective femtosecond lasers for life sciences and OEM instrumentation applications in multiphoton microscopy, semiconductor inspection, and nanomanufacturing. It is high reliability and common fit and form for all wavelengths simplify integration, with the added functionality of dispersion pre-compensation and optional fast power control.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The equipment is essential for research in retinal disease to stem discoveries, foster innovation, and bring external funding to the University of Illinois at Chicago.
