Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

The purchase of Terumo Medical Corporation Peripheral Vascular supplies, are Stents, Peripheral Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) Balloon Catheters, Peripheral Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) Guidewires, Atherectomy Devices. These items are used to treat conditions affecting the circulatory system, including: Atherosclerosis - artery walls become abnormally thick or hard. Arterial occlusion and embolism - material in the bloodstream blocks blood flow. Carotid occlusive disease - carotid arteries become blocked. Guidewires, stents etc., are used to open up the blockages for blood flow in the patient.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Terumo peripheral vascular disposable supplies have to do with direct patient treatment and care. These vascular supplies are needed so we can offer life saving procedures. Without these supplies we could not offer these procedures and patients would need to seek care elsewhere. This would also result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
