The University awarded a contract for portable MRI.
Portable MRI for the treatment of patients at UI Health.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) By utilizing portable MRI we are eliminating a need for unnecessary transport of critically ill patients. Other portable devices such as portable CT's do not detect early strokes, cannot asses damaged brain tissue which is critical information for purposes of neurological surgery interventions, therefore the only option is an acquisition of portable MRI machine.
