The University awarded a contract for disposable and ancillary supplies.
Haemonetics offers disposable and ancillary supplies used in surgical procedures such as Cardiac intervention. Cardiac intervention is the clinical term for a variety of procedures to prevent and treat cardiovascular health.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Cardiac intervention is the clinical term for a variety of procedures to prevent and treat cardiovascular health, issues like heart attacks and coronary artery disease. The Haemonetics disposables consist of a sheath and perclose device that inserted into pre-closure of femoral venous access sites used for large-sized sheath insertion with the Perclose device in adults undergoing cardiac intervention. The Haemonetics medical devices and disposables are needed for direct patient treatment and care. Without access to these specific medical devices and ancillaries the Hospital would not be able to deliver proper treatment to patients under the University's care, which would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
