The University awarded a contract for Gottingen minipigs.
Gottingen minipigs needed for medical research.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) These animals are necessary to perform a medical research study that will benefit the University financially and will open opportunities for future projects with a similar scope. There are methods being developed for this study that will be used for future research projects.
